Group Classes

Whether you're taking your first steps into Pilates or looking to elevate your practice, our group machine classes provide the perfect setting to connect with your body, build strength and mobility, and achieve your movement goals in a supportive community.

Read important information about the class levels and class types below.

  • New Students: We recommend newcomers start with a Machines 101 class or a Level 1 Foundations class.

Level 1: Level 1 classes are perfect for students who are new to the practice, or who have been practicing Pilates for less than a year at Humani.

All Levels: All levels classes are mixed level classes, which includes people at various stages of functional skill development and experience with Pilates. These classes are taught at a beginner to intermediate level, providing various movement options for various points on your movement journey. These classes move at a faster pace and are more complex in choreography than Level 1 classes. If you are new to Pilates or our studio, we recommend starting with Level 1.

Level 1.5 and Level 2: Level 1.5 and Level 2 classes are intermediate to advanced levels only. They go into more advanced choreography and exercise transitions. In order to keep a moderate pace through class, you are required to attend *multiple All Levels classes before joining Level 1.5 or 2, even if you’ve done Pilates elsewhere before joining our studio.

Because the choreography is complex, for your safety and the faster flow of the class, we ask that you are able to bear full weight on all portions of your feet and wrists (i.e. planks).

If any of those positions are uncomfortable for you, or you are actively working through injuries, attend our All Levels classes instead.

Please inform us if you have any injuries prior to beginning group classes.

  • New to Humani or Pilates? Enjoy this 1-hour introductory class in a fully supportive and relaxed environment. We will go over Pilates fundamentals, you will learn how to use the equipment, and workout on the Pilates Reformer machine.

Who: This class is for new students only.

When: The class takes place 1-2x/month (rotating Saturdays), and it’s open for registration 2 weeks ahead of time. If you do not cancel the class within our 12 hour cancellation period, you will forfeit the class.

    Fee: drop in rate $15

Class Descriptions

Our teachers lead classes with compassion, safety, and understanding of functional movement goals. With that, we believe in empowering you to grow your practice at a pace that is safe and appropriate for you.

  • These classes are perfect for students who are new to the practice, or who have been practicing Pilates for less than a year at Humani. Expect to flow from one movement to the next while learning:

    1. proper body mechanics in foundational Pilates exercises;

    2. how to use core muscles to support and stabilize the spine; and

    3. how to increase mobility and function in the hips, legs, and shoulders.

Beginners, new to Pilates, and those who want to get back to the basics

  • Using the Pilates Reformer, your practice will aim to improve functional body mechanics; including, core strength, spinal stability and mobility, postural alignment, as well as challenge your body in all planes of movement. You’ll build a stronger relationship with your body while being guided to tune into specific muscular sensations and your breath.

Balance: Joy and Balance classes are very similar in content. The Balance class also includes work designed to help build your proprioception and body awareness through additional balance work.

If you are new to Pilates or Humani, we recommend you start with the Level 1 - Foundations classes first.

    Beginner to intermediate

  • Interested in trying the Chair? This class is a great opportunity. The Pilates Chair is unique in its ability to isolate the two sides of your body, challenge stability, and help you gain deep core strength and all-over strength.

    Beginner to intermediate

  • This class is a combination Chair class designed to help increase strength in functional compound movements (like squats, lunges, arm presses, etc.) to help build muscle mass essential in supporting the body from bone mass losses. You can expect a portion of the class to focus on compound movements using props like weights and the other portion of the class will be completed on the Chair.

    Beginner to intermediate

  • The Humani Method Mat class is the perfect opportunity to explore moving your body without the springs and with nothing but the mat (and an occasional prop or two). With a consistent flow from one move to the next, you will feel challenged, invigorated, and more mobile.

    All levels

  • Feeling tight and achy and in need of a deep stretch, but also want to use the Reformer? This is the class for you.

The goal of this class is to walk away feeling fantastically stretched and mobilized. If you’re looking for a strength based workout, this class is not it. Try our other All Levels classes instead.

In this class, you can expect to use the Reformer to go into stretches and mobility work, with massage-like movement, while switching from one move to the other.

This class is an excellent addition to your regular Pilates practice, as well as conditioning for running, cycling, sports, etc., increasing flexibility and mobility.

    *Special class; all levels welcome

  • This class moves! 50% Mat and 50% Chair that is designed to be an overall full body challenge. Expect core and mobility work on the mat, followed by upper/lower body challenges using the Chair. Because this class explores some of the intermediate Chair work, it is best suited for students without painful chronic injuries that impact mobility (especially in knees and shoulders).

We require you to attend the Chair Bliss (All Levels) class within the last 6 months prior to attending this class.

    Intermediate to advanced

  • Students are required to take multiple All Levels Reformer classes at Humani within the last 6 months (more is strongly recommended) prior to taking this class.

This class moves at a fast past (including transitions) which means that for your safety, we count on you to be very comfortable on the exact Reformer we use; including, setting it up, standing up/getting off with control on an unstable surface, and knowing all equipment functions (foot bar, shoulder blocks, boxes, etc.).

Because the choreography is complex, for your safety and the faster flow of the class, we ask that you are able to bear full weight on all portions of your feet and wrists (i.e. planks).
